An Online Store Launch Checklist That Starts With A Test Order
WISELIVN BUSINESS GUIDES · STORE SETUP
Your store is ready for a useful launch review when you can follow an order from a product question through payment, confirmation and delivery. A test order exposes gaps that a quick look at the homepage can miss.
Make the product understandable
Check the product name, price, variations, dimensions and important limitations. Use photographs and descriptions that accurately represent the item. Put delivery expectations and links to relevant policies where buyers can find them. Ask someone unfamiliar with the product to explain what they think they are buying and what happens after payment.
Walk through mobile checkout
Use a phone to choose a variation, add the item to the cart, review delivery options and complete an appropriate test transaction using your platform’s supported testing process. Check that totals and conditions are understandable before payment. Do not run real card details through an unapproved test workflow. Note errors, confusing fields and unexpected changes.
Read the confirmation as a customer
Does it identify the order and explain what happens next? Can the customer find support? Are delivery expectations consistent with the product page? A polished checkout followed by an unclear confirmation still creates work for the customer and support team. Use fictional information in public screenshots.
Trace the fulfillment handoff
Identify who receives the order, checks stock, arranges fulfillment and sends updates. Test what happens when an item is unavailable or an address needs clarification. Write an escalation path rather than relying on the founder to notice every exception. Record the owner and expected response for each stage.
Prioritise fixes before adding traffic
Use a short issue list: problem, customer impact, owner, next action and retest date. Fix broken purchases, misleading totals and missing essential information before cosmetic refinements. Retest the changed step and its immediate neighbours. A completed checklist does not prove the store will convert, but it gives you a clearer foundation for learning from real visitors.
